Plus Size Fashion and Lifestyle Blog

We had some serious buzz on our Facebook page this week surrounding the recent Redbook interview Melissa McCarthy gave about her wardrobe for the Oscars. The conversation on our page got heated about the fact that she said she has a hard time finding gowns during awards season. We LOVE hearing your opinions and seeing you advocate for curvy girls worldwide; while we are in total agreement that plus size women deserve just the same amount of attention and beautiful couture that their skinny counterparts acquire, we understand that the issue is far more complicated than the media makes it seem. There are major costs associated with making gowns for women who are not sample size and often it would mean the celebrity would have to cover the cost of the gown themselves in order for any brand to make it worth their while, since it’s not like those brands you typically see on red carpets MAKE plus size options. With a brand like Theia, who dressed Gabourey Sidibe for the Oscars, you can actually purchase one of their gowns up to a size 16, which is why it makes sense that they created a custom gown for her. Did you weigh in on the situation? Make sure you follow us on Facebook or comment below to weigh in on important issues to our community like this one.
We also practically devoured the first episode of “Orange is the New Black.” If only we had the entire weekend to watch the new season! Darn, social engagements! Are you watching the Netflix original series? We’re pretty obsessed around the office. Make sure you check out SWAK’s original series, “SWAK in 60 Seconds” featuring skirts this week. You can take 25% off with the code in the video and snag a fab maxi or wrap skirt. You can read all about how to wear skirts and why they’re the perfect versatile bottom option on the blog here. Until next time, keep in touch online @swakdesigns on Twitter & Instagram.
